Research

The MS Society is the biggest funder in Scotland of research into the causes, cure and care of multiple sclerosis.

Our current commitment to research in Scotland is over £1.6 million. We are supporting research projects at Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen Universities.
Recent and current research topics include:

How best to grow cells which might be useful in repairing nerve damage
Identifying chemicals which are important in the process of nerve damage and repair
The role of viruses in MS
Support networks for carers of people with MS

Our future priorities for research will be:

Identifying environmental and genetic factors which make MS more common in Scotland than anywhere else in the world

Better relief of symptoms (starting with fatigue)

Cell damage and repair
